Six years after the premiere of Audition 4, Kaya Kołodziejczyk took on the task of the production of the following and so far not staged part of Andrzej Krzanowski’s vocal/instrumental/performative cycle. This lengthy project had been preceded by the research on the avant-garde music and theatre of the 1960s and 70s which had considerable influence on choreography.
Architectonic experiments on human body, computer graphics, interactive animations responding to sound and movement, somatic techniques, film images, a choir commenting on the events, musicians playing the instruments (whistles, ocarinas, sirens) – all these elements create a music score to the Polish composer’s sensual spectacle. Kołodziejczyk focuses primarily on movement and voice, treating them as a starting point for production of the whole opera in the future. She interprets the music but also gives new meanings to the texts. She is the first to use the literary texts selected by the composer and to put him in the position of the playwright. Images inscribed into the music score, in order to resound fully, need the audience’s involvement. This necessity of interaction makes it possible to interpret this reconstruction of Krzanowski’s work in completely new ways. Thanks to it, it is not a closed form but it opens the viewers to new experiences and makes them perceive it with the use of as many senses as possible.
